Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a session cost?
The cost for one session is $130.
How long does each session last?
Sessions are 50 minutes.
What can I expect in our first session together?
In our first session, we will get to know one another, explore what brings you to therapy, and establish clear goals for our work together. Establishing rapport and a strong therapeutic relationship is important so I will ask a few questions about your background, values, strengths, and passions in life. Any questions you have about my background, training, education, or experience are welcomed so that you can feel comfortable and safe with me.
What is your style as a therapist?
If I could describe my style in a few words it would be: warm, insightful, empathic, invested, and compassionate. I am passionate about giving you practical tools to implement in your life today, while simultaneously looking at the past to understand the root causes of what’s going on. My hope is that we collaborate as a team and curiously look at what’s happening to uncover and resolve core issues. Using some humor when appropriate can also be therapeutic.
Can you integrate my faith into session?
Absolutely. I welcome all faith backgrounds into the therapy room. While I am most familiar with the Christian perspective, I will do my best to understand, respect and integrate your faith into our sessions according to your level of comfort with it.
What is your cancellation policy?
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy so if you cancel 24 hours or more in advance, you will not be charged. If you cancel within the 24 hour time frame before your session, you will be charged the full rate. Life happens and things can unexpectedly occur so I offer one “freebie” where you will not be charged for missing a session.
How will I know when therapy needs to end?
This is a question that’s unique to each client. As the therapist, I want to honor your autonomy, so you are able to start and stop therapy whenever you want. There are some overall markers that would indicate that ending would be appropriate. Some of those markers include effectively regulating your emotions, feeling more peaceful in relationships with others, noticing that your sense of self has improved, embodying more independence, and seeing sustained changes that you want. Often, when clients start to run out of things to talk about in therapy, that could be a good sign that you have achieved your goals!
How often do I need to come to sessions?
Starting off on a weekly basis is most appropriate so that I can get to know you, we can establish goals, and create a plan to address the things that you want to change. Therapy is most effective when it’s done on a regular basis. It’s like going to the gym: the more consistently you go, the more results you will see.
Once you feel like you’re able to better manage your emotions, relationships, and boundaries, and your level of distress has been reduced, then we can talk about going every other week after that.
What treatment approaches do you use?
I use a variety of treatment approaches and they are specifically tailored to what you need. I often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma informed therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Attachment based therapy, Person Centered therapy, and Positive Psychology. I’m able to integrate faith perspectives into any of these approaches.
Can I use insurance to cover therapy?
At this time, I am an out of network provider, which means that I do not accept insurance coverage to cover the cost of sessions. I would be happy to provide you with a Superbill, a receipt for services, that you can take to your insurance company and pursue partial reimbursement. Under the law, clients who are not using insurance are entitled to know the cost of the medical and mental health services before they recieve them. This document is called a “Good Faith Estimate” and will give you an estimated cost for psychotherapy services. I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will cover therapy services and recommend that you check your eligibility with your insurance company.
Do you offer therapy in person or on Telehealth ?
I offer sessions both in person or online. My office is convienently located in Castro Valley, off of Redwood Road and I utilize a HIPAA compliant video platform for online sessions.
I am more than happy to see clients online, but I kindly request that children ages 6-12 are on not seen via telehealth. I only see kids this age in person.
